The history of the world famous manufacturer of construction and mining equipment Hitachi Construction Machinery began in 1910 in the small Japanese town of Hitati. Then the young talented engineer Namihei Odaira, keen on designing electrical devices, participated in the project for the construction of a hydroelectric power station. Success in creating the electric motor spurred the desire of Namihei Odaira and his team to engage in new developments. In 1949, they produced the first U05 crawler excavator, manufactured entirely by Japanese technology. And in 1965, the first hydraulic excavator UH03 appeared, which, thanks to a new development with two pumps and two valves, allowed to increase the productivity of operators: now they can simultaneously raise the boom and rotate the excavator. Such a function in market analogues was not. A new idea was noticed by many manufacturers who used at that time standard European developments with one pump and one valve. So the Japanese technologies began to gain world popularity.

Model UH03 marked the beginning of several series of excavators UH. For their mass production in 1966, the Tsuchiura plant was built, specializing mainly in the manufacture of small and medium hydraulic excavators.

The company was actively developing. In 1970, Hitachi Construction Machinery (HCM) Co., Ltd, separated from the mother company Hitachi Ltd, separated the construction equipment division, which focused on the production and development of a line of hydraulic crawler excavators.

In 1987, the first large hydraulic excavator Hitachi EX3500 with a working weight of 328 tons was developed. It quickly gained worldwide popularity due to its capacity and high efficiency.

In 1994, Euclid-Hitachi Heavy Equipment Inc. was established. After the acquisition of 100% of the shares, the name was changed to Hitachi Construction Truck Manufacturing (HTM), and the production of 40-350-tonne rigid dump trucks was moved from the USA to Canada.
