HITACHI CONSTRUCTION MACHINERY: THE HISTORY OF BRAND
The history of the world famous manufacturer of construction and mining equipment Hitachi Construction Machinery began in 1910 in the small Japanese town of Hitati. Then the young talented engineer Namihei Odaira, keen on designing electrical devices, participated in the project for the construction of a hydroelectric power station. Hitachi Construction Machinery & Equipment Parts. He was disappointed that all the main equipment was manufactured and installed under the supervision of foreign specialists.
Confident that all electrical equipment can be produced inside his country, Odaira began working on his creation. He went through many difficulties, relying solely on his own knowledge and skills. Instead of copying foreign developments, the young engineer offered original solutions: it was necessary to introduce the electric motor of Japanese origin to the world.
Hitachi ConstructionHitachi Together with his associates, Namihay Odaira released an engine with a capacity of five horsepower, which was the first step in the history of the original Japanese developments in the field of engineering. After that, the engineer opened his own company and called it Hitachi, which in Japanese means “dawn”. He imposed one Chinese character – Hi (“sun”) on the other – Tachi (“sunrise”) and enclosed them in a circle. The four ledges on the outside of the circle symbolize both the four sides of the world and the rays of the rising sun.
Success in creating the electric motor spurred the desire of Namihei Odaira and his team to engage in new developments. In 1949, they produced the first U05 crawler excavator, manufactured entirely by Japanese technology. And in 1965, the first hydraulic excavator UH03 appeared, which, thanks to a new development with two pumps and two valves, allowed to increase the productivity of operators: now they can simultaneously raise the boom and rotate the excavator. Such a function in market analogues was not. A new idea was noticed by many manufacturers who used at that time standard European developments with one pump and one valve. So the Japanese technologies began to gain world popularity.
Model UH03 marked the beginning of several series of excavators UH. For their mass production in 1966, the Tsuchiura plant was built, specializing mainly in the manufacture of small and medium hydraulic excavators.
The company was actively developing. In 1970, Hitachi Construction Machinery (HCM) Co., Ltd, separated from the mother company Hitachi Ltd, separated the construction equipment division, which focused on the production and development of a line of hydraulic crawler excavators.
In 1987, the first large hydraulic excavator Hitachi EX3500 with a working weight of 328 tons was developed. It quickly gained worldwide popularity due to its capacity and high efficiency.
In 1994, Euclid-Hitachi Heavy Equipment Inc. was established. After the acquisition of 100% of the shares, the name was changed to Hitachi Construction Truck Manufacturing (HTM), and the production of 40-350-tonne rigid dump trucks was moved from the USA to Canada.
The company continued to grow, and in 2008, near the city of Hitachinaka, another Rinko plant with an area of 181,500 sq. Km was built. m. It produces quarry excavators of models ZH470 – ZH870 and EX1200 – EX8000, as well as dump trucks EH3500ACII – EH5000ACII.
In the same year, one of the largest dump trucks produced in Japan, the EN3500AC-2 with a rigid frame and an electric AC drive, was produced. It was based on last year’s development of Hitachi Ltd., based on inverter technology used in high-speed passenger trains such as Shinkansen.
Hitachi always has a high responsibility to society, follows the concept of “gentle production” and tries to minimize the harmful impact on the environment. This is the driving force for creating machines that consume less energy, last longer and are made from recyclable materials. Tippers and excavators with electric drive are just a part of such developments. So, in 2011 appeared a mini-excavator ZX35B with battery power. In the same year in Japan was released a new generation of hybrid excavators ZH200. Based on the experience in the development of hydraulic excavators, battery equipment and electrical equipment, the company has created a hybrid system Trias-HX. Thanks to the advantages of the hydraulic and hybrid systems, twenty percent fuel savings were achieved.
